SMART is proud to have been the recipient of a micro-grant from The Harlem Bureau of Neighborhood Health “to protect and promote the East Harlem Community’s rights to realize their full health potential.” Having established a reliable and consistent presence as a source of health information and education in East Harlem, we used this grant to launch the SMART Health Harm Reduction Outreach project, with a primary focus on community members who use drugs. Through a partnership with Mount Sinai’s Medicine Residency Program, we were fortunate to have Dr. Megha Srivastava as our medical expert and instructor for an informational series of six Harm Reduction Conversations. We were also grateful for the support and guidance of Mount Sinai’s REACH Program and OnPoint NYC.
We continue to conduct outreach every Monday at 9am outside of the East Harlem Neighborhood Health Action Center and are distributing supplies such as Narcan, fentanyl strips, and safe injection kits, as well as resources for PrEP, overdose prevention centers, mental health care, and IPV support.
