SMART is excited to be the recipient of a micro-grant from The Harlem Bureau of Neighborhood Health “to protect and promote the East Harlem Community’s rights to realize their full health potential.” We are proud to be a reliable and consistent source of health information and education in East Harlem and are using this grant to launch the SMART Health Harm Reduction Outreach project, with a primary focus on community members who use drugs. We are conducting outreach every Monday at 9am outside of the East Harlem Neighborhood Health Action Center and are distributing supplies such as Narcan, fentanyl strips, and safe injection kits, as well as resources for PrEP, overdose prevention centers, mental health care, and IPV support. Through a partnership with Mount Sinai’s Medicine Residency Program, we are fortunate to have Dr. Megha Srivastava as our medical expert and instructor for an informational series of six Harm Reduction Conversations. We are also grateful for the support and guidance of Mount Sinai’s REACH Program and OnPoint NYC.
