From February 2024 through June 2025, SMART was a partner organization of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Building Resiliency and Vaccine Equity (BRAVE) project. Over the course of this project, SMART utilized outreach events, community conversations, tailored messaging, and social media messaging to educate the East Harlem community about respiratory infections such as COVID, RSV, and the flu, with a goal of reducing associated rates of illness and mortality. Below is our documentation of SMART’s participation in BRAVE.
SMART is proud to be part of Building Resiliency and Vaccine Equity (BRAVE), a new Public Health Corp (PHC) initiative aimed at reducing rates of illness and mortality associated with respiratory infections such as COVID and the flu. This opportunity supports SMART’s efforts to increase vaccine coverage in East Harlem through outreach events, community conversations, tailored messaging, social media messaging, and the provision of resources and guidance in navigating health systems and vaccine appointments. We are also spreading awareness about Long COVID, its symptoms, its impact on health and wellbeing, and ways to seek help.
Please join us every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. on Facebook Live for a 30 minute conversation on current health topics, facilitated by Dr. Megha Srivastava. We will be hosting medical professionals to discuss issues related to respiratory illnesses such as COVID, RSV, and the flu, and the importance of keeping up-to-date with available vaccines. These conversations are open to all!
