Susan provides development, vision, direction and oversight to staff and consultants for all programs and activities. She promotes relationships with other non-profit and local government agencies and is the primary contact for fundraising and development opportunities.



Tawnya Manion

Culinary director |

Tawnya leads our cooking and nutrition workshops at the East Harlem Health Action Center and throughout the community. She ensures that each class has up-to-date, science based nutrition education and that our participants learn how to prepare fresh, delicious, and healthy meals. Samantha Clare

Director of Operations |

Sam handles all of the logistics of SMART programs and activities. She builds relationships with other CBO’s in East Harlem and beyond. Contact Sam for any SMART program presentation inquiries.


Les LaRue

Program Director |

Les applies his energy to the development of SMART programs and initiatives, as well as being the in-house graphic designer/marketing director, and the instructor for SMART Art & Technology. Working with the Founding Director, he is also the associate grant writer for SMART. Kevin Rios

Program Manager |

Kevin oversees all programs of SMART including SMART Youth. He coordinates outreach initiatives and participation in health fairs and other community events. Contact Kevin for information about SMART programs, activities, or SMART participation in community events or health fairs.


Matthew D'Onofrio

communications manager |

Matthew maintains SMART's social media accounts, edits the official website and creates newsletters/eblasts. He also photographs events and ensures the organization's staff, donors and followers are updated with the necessary details. Tara Pierce

SMART AMBASSADOR/Program Assistant |

Tara assists in all SMART Food For Life programs, processes SMART Intake Forms, contacts clients for upcoming classes and events, and is part of the outreach team. Contact Tara for information on upcoming classes, to schedule an intake, or to RSVP for SMART Body.


Annie Reyes


Annie assists in clean-up and food preparation for all Food For Life programming. She is also fluent in spoken Spanish and serves as a translator for the Spanish-speaking community.


Christina Rodriguez

Smart Youth founding director |

Frances Wood

SMART Youth Coordinator |
